Eat Mine Raw

Statement

“I know you’re looking for Mr. Right, but I’ll fuck you till he comes along.”

This series of works evolved from my encounter with a man wearing a T-shirt bearing this message as we passed each other on the street.  I thought, why would a man wear this on his chest in public?  Its implication was so offensive and blatant; it had the opposite desired effect to what he was offering in the first place.

I’ve focused on these T-shirt messages worn by men as a means of exploring this manner of communication.  I’m interested in the dichotomy here between communication as contact and communication as transgression.  This is a safe interrelation with another by a non-verbal means, imparting a bit of identity through humour- without disclosure.

He wants the opportunity to say what he wants to say without fear of the consequences.   The question is what is he really trying to say about himself?
